Company description

IKEA has an ambition to inspire and enable more than 1 billion people to live a better everyday life within the limits of the planet.
We want to offer affordable and accessible solutions for healthy and sustainable living through our home furnishing offer, knowledge and ideas meeting all customer touch points.

Job description

We are always looking for new innovations to meet our customer needs, today and in the future.

In our movement towards being climate positive, we will take virgin fossil materials out of our products and replace them with new better materials with a lower footprint, creating the menu of materials for the future. A key part of this development is also HOW we produce our materials.

For this thesis, we would like you to take a deep dive into todays textile production environment, to map and analyse key product value chains and Life Cycle Analysis.
To measure our success we need to better understand the baseline and the actions we take, seeing how they contribute to the Global direction we have set.

This is predominately a desktop study where the majority of the thesis will be made remotely. Where possible we bring students to IKEA of Sweden in Älmhult to meet and experience the head office. This will be subject to travel and meet recommendations.
We are a Global organization, strong communication skills in English are required.

Qualification

We are looking for two curious Master students studying topics connected to Textile production and Chemistry, Environment or supply chain development
You MUST have a passion and curiosity for creating a better everyday life for people and planet.

More Information

We would like a mapping of 2 value chains of home textile products, to include a deep dive into cost drivers, chemical consumption, water consumption, energy, etc, and the impact on CO2 emissions and cost. The outcome of this mapping will enable clear understanding within the production process of where we can develop new solutions and overall reduce our consumption and climate footprint.
